A broken Clarks Noris

If you don’t like gory pictures look away, we have a broken Staedtler Noris coming up.

Today: a Noris I came across in a Clarks store. Clarks is a British shoe shop chain. My guess is that they are the biggest shoe shop chain in the UK, but I could be wrong.

The Noris, which can be seen on the poster and which seems to be used by a worker in the shoe factory is broken, the end bit is partly split off – yes, I know, you just walk into a shoe store, don’t expect anything bad and then you are confronted with a broken Noris ..without warning!

The EAN code seems to indicate that this poor butchered Staedtler Noris has a B lead.

Visiting Lamy’s store in Shanghai’s Raffles City

After the blog post about the shop from FuZhou Road I had to interrupt this Chinese New Year series with the Pencil Pot of the Month before the month came to an end – but now we are back on track with the next Chinese New Year blog post.

This time: a look at Lamy’s store in Raffles City, a shopping mall at the end of Shanghai’s FuZhou Road.

Inventors and their Staedtler pens – then and now

Unfortunately leadholder.com doesn’t work 100% at the moment. Many of leadholder.com’s images will not display, so I can’t be sure whether this is a real Staedtler lead holder or a copy ..but for now, because of the blue colour, I assume that Denys Fisher, the inventor of the Spirograph, used a Staedtler lead holder in these photos.

Haiyan Zhang came up with an invention that helps Parkinson’s sufferers to be able to write and draw again – and it all started with her Staedtler pens.

Just a quick Interlude (or should that be Interlead) before I continue with the blog posts about the Insights X 2016.

The first edition of the James Bond novel “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” from 1963 features a hand sharpened Mars Lumograph.

Blog reader John from Dublin has been in contact and sent me this information.

I do not know if this counts as a true “Noris in the wild” but I was in a Chinese market in my home town of Dublin, Ireland and bought three of these for €3. Having distributed them between my work, home and edc and relied on their presence several times I think they may have become my favourite Noris’ to date.

It’s great to see that the mechanical Noris gets some love, too!
