School closures in the UK because of COVID-19 mean that schools gave their pupils work to take home for the next weeks.
It’s great that the common school pencil in the UK is the amazing Staedtler Noris and not some scratchy no name pencil.

It’s always nice to drive through Belgium as it gives me a chance to refill my Atoma reserves. As you might know, I’m a big fan of Atoma notebooks.
With such a choice to tempt me (see photo above) I couldn’t resist getting a BIC multi-pen with a pencil to add to my multi-pen plus pencil collection.
Carrefour had an offer on the Pelikano junior for under €10. It’s a great pen. When I bought mine in 2008 I paid £6.80, but these prices are long gone and today €10 seems like a steal.
The reason I really stopped was to get more Atoma notebooks. Unfortunately they didn’t have the Bio Atoma which I love. Even Atomas with cardboard covers were rare. Most had thick plastic covers which seem unnecessarily plasticy and not as nice as the cardboard variety. The similar Adoc notebooks were however available with cardboard covers.
When I drove on, into Germany, I noticed another nice stationery surprise. Kids get the excellent Noris colour pencils with a kids meal. Chicken fillets, fries, orange juice and Staedtler Noris for €3.99. The Noris is certainly the star in this combo.
If you’re in the UK you might be interested in Lidl’s recent offers, including eraser tipped coloured pencils from Staedtler.
I didn’t buy them, but will probably go back to get a pack. They might be quite useful as I use coloured pencils for writing in notebooks I use at work.
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Staedtler’s Noris…
…so I was very excited to see that there’s a Noris pencil case!
I first thought this a UK only set, but when I checked Amazon US I saw that it is also available in the USA.
There are even different sets with different pens.

By the way, Daan De Winter’s Noris in the Belgian TV series Professor T. is visible in many episodes. It is also used to remove the seal of a crime scene and for other tasks. Nice.

Welcome to the first post in a new series on this blog: Stationery Factlets [1]The term factoid has two meaning, so I decided to go with factlet, even though the term factoid is more common.. This new series was actually born out of necessity. You might remember my current lack of time. To enable me to post with minimal effort I thought of adding this series where I present small bits of information. Many readers will know some or most of these factlets, but you might be surprised by the occasional fact that is new to you or you might be reminded of old bits of information you have started forgetting.
OK, here’s the first factlet.
Staedtler’s Noris digital, their digital pen for Samsung tablets, works with many EMR (electromagnetic resonance) devices (EMR is one of several technologies that makes digital pens work), so it can actually also be used with many WACOM pen tablets (…but because of Staedtler’s current cooperation with Samsung Staedtler’s marketing material only makes reference to Samsung devices).
