By chance I came across a rather unusual student project from Finland’s Aalto Univeristy. It is called Beyond a pen and looks at mass produced pens, their stories and more.
Find out more on the Beyond a pen page of the Contemporary Design pages.

What research has been done about writers and their preferred writing instruments: pencils, pen – ball point, gel, fountain; typewriter, word processor? Author Gay Talese, reportedly, used the same Mont Blanc ballpoint forever and Roald Dahl favored a particular brand pencil. I wonder if those aspiring to enduring effort value their writing tools more.
Written communication otherwise, like disposable instruments most favored, is underwhelming; forgettable.
