Obviously the pencils were removed to protect them from vandalism but you might think they were taken away to stop them being used to commit acts of vandalism such as scribbling on the walls. But that would be silly now wouldn’t it?

Unfortunately the truth is the silly alternative. We live in a time where the value of a pencil and the craftsmanship that went into making it doesn’t count and where parents don’t mind that their kids are scribbling all over hospital walls that are not meant for that purpose.
